Our Volunteer Car Scheme can provide help when access to public transport is difficult.

Volunteers using their own cars provide a service to clients that helps them keep appointments, make visits to family or get to the shops. The service is primarily available throughout the Ashford Borough and we can consider journeys further a field.

Costs:

The mileage is 40p per mile and is charged from the Volunteer Driver's home to the pick up and drop off points and back to the Driver's home. In addition, a £1 administration fee per booked journey is applied which goes towards the cost of running the service.

A minimum charge of £5, including administration fee, is applicable.

Volunteer Drivers will wait for up to 1 hour for the return journey. For activities which take longer Drivers have the option to leave and return at a pre-arranged time. This means that there will be an increase in the overall mileage charged at 40p per mile.

All car parking fees are the responsibility of the client.

Unless previously arranged all costs are payable to the Volunteer Driver at the end of the journey.

Important information:

All Volunteer Drivers are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked.

Clients must be able to manoeuver themselves into and out of an average car without Driver assistance.

Some of our Driver's vehicles can accommodate a folded wheelchair or pushchair.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or carer and where appropriate a child seat must be provided and fitted by the parent or carer.

How to book:

A minimum of 3 working days notice is required.

Client's name and full address
Telephone number
Full pick up address
Full destination address Date of journey
Pick up time
Appointment time where applicable
Return time where applicable
If a wheelchair, pushchair or child seat is to be carried
